HBMS Community Education Scholarship

The Humboldt Bay Mycological Society (HBMS) is pleased to announce the annual Community Education Scholarship, with an award of $800. The recipient will be required to give a 45-minute to 1-hour presentation on a mycology-related topic of their choice. This presentation, including a PowerPoint, will be delivered in person at our monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in Arcata, CA.

Submission Deadline: October 31, 2025

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Open to undergraduate or graduate students at Cal Poly Humboldt or College of the Redwoods with an interest in mycology.

  2. The recipient must deliver an in-person, 45-minute to 1-hour presentation with PowerPoint on a mycology-related topic at our HBMS meeting at 7pm on January 15, 2025, in Arcata. If selected, you must submit your PowerPoint by January 14, 2025.

Application Materials:

  1. Topic Outline: Provide a clear outline of how you plan to structure your presentation. This should include key points and a basic breakdown of your talk. We want to see that you have put thought into the organization and flow of your presentation, rather than just a vague description of the topic.

  2. Relevant Coursework: Provide a list of any completed courses that demonstrate your preparedness for delivering the presentation (examples: Communications, Botany, Biology, Forestry).

  3. Presentation Commitment: A statement confirming that you will deliver an in-person, 45-minute to 1-hour PowerPoint presentation at our monthly meeting on January 15, 2025.

  4. Letter of Recommendation: A brief letter of recommendation from a professor, included with your application materials.

HBMS Fungal Research Stipend

The recipient of this stipend will speak at our September 2025 meeting.
